I had just left the gym when I got a text from Diana: Everything is a go. I’ll be bringing Rio to the club tonight.
After Marcus tried the Sprinkles, he couldn’t stop raving about how good the shit was. So, I didn’t waste any time hitting Diana up so I could see what this dude Rio was about to see if I could get in on the action.
I remembered the night she brought him to VIP. He seemed nice enough, and there was no mistaking his sexuality: he was obviously gay and proud. Because of this, I’d tried my best to ignore him. When it came to openly gay men, I made it a point not to be too friendly. But now, this was about business, so I had to make an exception as I sometimes had to do with Pierre.
The question now was whether I would tell Dre what was going on. Maybe I would just wait. After all, I didn’t have enough information yet: cost, quantity, nothing. So, I didn’t have anything to tell. Then there was also the fact that Dre hadn’t really been forthcoming with information for me lately either. He still hadn’t said shit to me about meeting those dudes Marcus told me about.
I thought about it for a few minutes, but ultimately, I decided to at least give him a heads up that Rio would be at the club. Dre’s ass could be so disrespectful sometimes, especially with gay dudes, and I didn’t want him saying anything that would make Rio uncomfortable. If Rio’s drugs were as good as Marcus said, I didn’t want Dre insulting him before we could make a business deal.
I checked my watch. It was four o’clock, around the time he usually made the afternoon deposit. I left the gym parking lot and headed to the bank to see if I could catch him.
Dre was just leaving the bank when I pulled up. I parked behind his car, but he looked so into his own thoughts that he didn’t even notice my car as he approached. I could tell something was wrong from the frown on his face.
“Shit,” I swore under my breath. We’d been so careful over the past few months, always making sure our deposits were below the limit that would set off bells for the Feds. Seeing the tension in his face gave me cause for concern.
“Dre!” I called out. He finally looked up.
“Hey,” he said and walked over to my car.
I opened the door and got out. “What’s wrong?”
“Huh? Nothing. Why?” He frowned at me.
“I mean, you lookin’ stressed, like something’s wrong. Did something happen in the bank?” I asked.
“Nah, everything’s good. I just got a lot on my mind, I guess.” He couldn’t make eye contact. Something was up.
“You sure?” I peered at him.
“Positive.” He handed me the receipts from the deposit he just made. “See for yourself. Money’s looking good.”
I glanced at the slips of paper with a sense of relief and then handed them back to him.
